Toyota Camry

Fuel Contamination Remediation Standards

⚠️ Toyota Camry — Moderate misfuel risk

Popular NZ-new and import sedan; petrol or hybrid petrol on most NZ-new examples. Contaminated petrol or accidental diesel requires OEM-method draining.

If the engine was not started

Keep ignition off; drain via access panel before the pump runs.

If the engine was started

Replace fuel filter, inspect injectors, clear DTCs, and verify fuel quality after drain.

⚠️ Toyota position — Camry

Toyota Camry service manuals specify fuel pump access panel under the rear seat for most recent NZ generations (Method A). Misfuel is misuse excluded from factory warranty.

OEM access procedure

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure per Toyota service information (fuel pump relay/fuse, crank briefly if directed).
  2. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  3. Access the in-tank fuel pump module via the OEM access opening (rear seat or boot panel on most NZ-new and import models).
  4. Disconnect electrical connector and quick-connect fuel lines; cap lines to limit vapour release.
  5. Remove the pump lock ring with the specified tool; lift the module carefully to avoid damaging the level sender.
  6. Extract contaminated fuel with approved equipment; inspect the tank interior through the opening.
  7. Reinstall with a new pump O-ring/gasket; reconnect lines and verify no leaks before starting.
  8. Prime and clear codes per Toyota repair manual; road test when fuel quality is confirmed.
