Toyota Coaster

Fuel Contamination Remediation Standards

⚠️ Toyota Coaster — High misfuel risk

Large diesel tanks on coach variants; petrol in diesel is severe on fleet vehicles.

If the engine was not started

Do not crank. Drain diesel tank before the lift pump primes contaminated fuel.

If the engine was started

Inspect high-pressure pump, injectors, fuel rail, and filters; flush lines per OEM.

⚠️ Toyota position — Coaster

Toyota classifies fuel contamination as misuse excluded from factory warranty. Drain via OEM tank access method; never add AdBlue to the diesel tank.

OEM access procedure

  1. Do not start the engine. Secure the vehicle and keep ignition off.
  2. Relieve fuel system pressure per OEM service information (fuel pump fuse/relay procedure).
  3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  4. Access the in-tank fuel pump module using the OEM access panel or tank removal method for this model.
  5. Disconnect electrical connector and fuel lines; cap lines to limit vapour release.
  6. Remove the pump lock ring with the specified tool; extract contaminated fuel with approved equipment.
  7. Inspect the tank interior; replace filter and O-rings as specified.
  8. Reassemble, prime the system, check for leaks, and clear fault codes before road test.

Additional notes

  • AdBlue is filled at the separate blue cap — mis-fill requires OEM recovery steps.

Frequently asked questions

What if petrol was added to my Coaster diesel?

Do not start the engine. Petrol strips lubrication from the high-pressure diesel system and can destroy the pump and injectors.

Does the Coaster have a fuel pump access panel?

Most NZ utilities require tank drop or chassis-specific access — follow Toyota TIS tank-access procedure for your chassis.

Can I claim misfuel repair under the Consumer Guarantees Act?

Misfuel is usually treated as misuse; remedies may still apply to workmanship of the drain — seek advice or Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal if disputed.
