GWM Cannon

Fuel Contamination Remediation Standards

⚠️ GWM Cannon — High misfuel risk

Popular NZ diesel ute; petrol contamination of common-rail diesel is a frequent misfuel scenario.

If the engine was not started

Do not crank. Drain diesel tank before the lift pump primes contaminated fuel.

If the engine was started

Inspect high-pressure pump, injectors, fuel rail, and filters; flush lines per OEM.

⚠️ GWM position — Cannon

GWM classifies fuel contamination as misuse excluded from factory warranty. Drain via OEM tank access method; never add AdBlue to the diesel tank.

  7. Inspect the tank interior; replace filter and O-rings as specified.

Frequently asked questions

What if petrol was added to my Cannon diesel?

Do not start the engine. Petrol strips lubrication from the high-pressure diesel system and can destroy the pump and injectors.

Does the Cannon have a fuel pump access panel?

Some variants have under-seat access; many NZ utilities require partial tank drop — confirm in OEM data for your VIN.

Can I claim misfuel repair under the Consumer Guarantees Act?

Misfuel is usually treated as misuse; remedies may still apply to workmanship of the drain — seek advice or Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal if disputed.
