- Relieve fuel pressure (disconnect fuel pump connector, start engine until stall)
- Disconnect negative battery cable
- Remove rear seat cushion and access panel
- Disconnect fuel pump harness connector
- Drain fuel using approved fuel recovery equipment
- Raise vehicle and support safely
- Disconnect fuel feed line and return line
- Disconnect EVAP lines
- Remove fuel tank protector
- Support tank and remove mounting bolts
- Lower tank”

Honda vehicles in New Zealand are predominantly petrol-powered. Key considerations:
- No diesel models - Honda does not sell diesel vehicles in NZ, reducing misfuel risk
- Hybrid systems - e:HEV models still use petrol and can be contaminated
- Direct injection - Newer models (1.5T, 2.0T) use direct injection, more sensitive to contamination
Diesel-in-Petrol Contamination
While less common, adding diesel to a Honda petrol engine requires:
- Complete fuel system drain
- Fuel filter replacement
- System flush before refilling with petrol
- Direct injection models may require injector inspection
✓ Honda Hybrid (e:HEV) Systems
Honda’s e:HEV hybrid system uses a petrol engine as a generator with electric motor drive. The petrol tank can still be contaminated. If fuel contamination is suspected, do not start the vehicle as the engine will activate during system initialization.
