- Disconnect battery (12V and 48V where applicable)
- Drain fuel tank using approved fuel extraction equipment
- Raise vehicle on four-post lift
- Remove underbody protection
- Disconnect fuel filler pipe
- Disconnect fuel lines (use JLR special tools)
- Disconnect electrical connectors
- Support tank with transmission jack

⚠️ JLR Diesel Engines - Ingenium and TDV6/TDV8
JLR diesel engines (Ingenium D180/D200/D250/D300 and older TDV6/TDV8) are highly sophisticated and extremely sensitive to fuel contamination:
- Do NOT start the engine if wrong fuel suspected
- Do NOT turn ignition to RUN - priming pumps activate
- JLR diesel injection systems can require complete replacement if contaminated
- Cost of replacement parts can exceed $15,000+
- Many models have twin fuel tank configurations requiring dual extraction
Ingenium Engines
JLR’s Ingenium engine family powers most current models. Both petrol and diesel variants use high-pressure direct injection:
